New Works
Charline Von Heyl - an artist known for her large scale, colorful abstract works did not disappoint with her show at Petzel Gallery, on view from September 6th – October 20th, 2018 at their 18th street location in New York.
I could have gotten lost in these paintings all day...which is exactly what Heyl wants.
“To leave a hole in the mind, a longing.” “The moment of looking is the most stretched moment possible—the aftertaste of the moment before and a future in which you want to go back to see what you have just seen.” - Charline Von Heyl
In case you’re curious - “Her large works are priced at $75,000 to $120,000; smaller colleges go for $7,500 to $10,000.” according to Art News.
“Von Heyl is free and fearless. Like Asger Jorn or Luciano Fontana, two of her sources of creative inspiration, von Heyl confronts conventional ideas about aesthetics and beauty and embraces organized chaos and wild excessiveness, making work that is almost futuristic “Baroque.”” - Forbes
Charline is a German artist (born and raised), who now splits her time between New York City and Marfa Texas. She’s married to the well-renowned artist Christopher Wool.
“I didn’t have any money, and he had money, and I was really keen on having good dinners. He became such a close friend, and then I fell in love and the whole thing suddenly fell into place.” The two were married in 1997.” - Charline Von Heyl about meeting Christopher Wool in New York
She was nominated in 2014 for the Hugo Boss Prize - kind of a big deal. She’s been represented by Petzel Gallery since 1996.
