Baby Brood and Other Paintings
An exhibition by Lisa Yuskavage, took place at two David Zwirner New York locations (19th and 69th street).
Zwirner’s 19th street location showcases Lisa’s small scale paintings (few larger than an 8x10 sheet of paper), while Zwirner’s 69th street location is dedicated to eight large scale NEW paintings. (see below)
The large scale paintings “depicting mostly couples will be exhibited in the gallery uptown, a townhouse space that emphasizes their predominantly domestic and intimate scenes.” - David Zwirner press release
Lisa Yuskavage is an American born (Philadelphia) artist, currently residing in New York. Her technique can best be described as that of a renaissance painter depicting traditional subject matter such as nudes, landscapes, or still-lives an overly sexualized manner - challenging the ideas of ‘high’ and ‘low’ imagery.
Yuskavage has had a long relationship with David Zwirner Gallery, with four solo exhibitions since 2006.
She is represented by David Zwirner (New York) and by Greengrassi (London)

I admire Guston and Diane Arbus and Fassbinder because they show a myriad of internal conflicts. That’s what art is—a struggle filtered through the self. That is how it becomes generous. - Lisa Yuskavage in Art in America
A whole lot of wrong in this world has been done by people able to pretend and imagine and believe that someone, another human being, is not in any way like them. - Lisa Yuskavage in The Paris Review
