Black & White
An exhibition of Louise Nevelson's works at Pace Gallery on view from February 1st – March 3rd, 2018. The crazy thing is this her 21st solo show with Pace. 21 shows.
Out of all the posts I've written with very well known artists such as Richard Prince, and Keith Haring, I haven't come across an artist with that many solo shows at a single gallery.
If you haven't heard of Louise Nevelson this exhibition is a classic example of her signature work
"Discarded furniture and other wood elements found in the area surrounding her studio." - Pace Gallery
For this incredible use of material she's one of the most famous sculptures of the twentieth century....
...you've probably seen her works and not even realized it at
and many many more ....
"I fell in love with black; it contained all color. It wasn't a negation of color... Black is the most aristocratic color of all... You can be quiet, and it contains the whole thing." - Louise Nevelson
Louis Nevelson is also famous for her influence on the Feminist Art Movement. She set new presidents for what work by a female artist should or could look like. As you can see - her works are very dark and heavy (not was was 'expected' from a female artist).
"I'm not a feminist. I'm an artist who happens to be a woman." - Louise Nevelson
Pace Gallery represents many other powerhouse females that have had a huge impact on art history as well such as Agnes Martin, Kiki Smith and Elizabeth Murray.
