We’re Out Here
An exhibition of works by L.A. artists Michael Alvarez at Marlborough Contemporary in Chelsea, from February 15th — March 17th, 2018.
My favorite thing about this exhibition is his ability to show a vibrant, diverse..sometimes seedy cityscape with an almost dream-like, impressionisitic style.
“Alvarez is a figurative painter with a fascination for human interactions, experiences and history. His paintings pull from his collection of visual artifacts, stories and his own daily experiences and observations.” - MaRS Gallery
I also love when an artist brings out a great crowd and that night Marlborough was packed with the kind of people that you'd see in a dive bar, having intellectual conversation about their vegetable garden they're growing out of their window box.
From hipsters to skateboarders, everybody had a great time drinking Budweiser out of trash cans, admiring Alvarez's depiction of the urban Los Angeles landscape (and I still can't get those colors out of my mind).
