New York Art Galleries - Tribeca/Soho/West Village
When I originally wrote this article I stated that "more and more galleries are exiting Chelsea and the Lower East Side in favor of Tribeca. CANADA, James Cohen, and P.P.O.W are just a few who have recently relocated." And while that was accurate, I had no idea how many galleries would jump on the relocation bandwagon. In the past year P.P.O.W, Lomex Gallery, Grimm, The Hole (second location), Luhring Augustine Gallery, Freight + Volume Gallery, Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, and David Zwirner are of have opened brand new locations or relocated completely to Tribeca. I've marked all of these with an * below.
Zwirner is the last of the bunch to announce their newest location that is allegedly at 52 Walker Street, so I'll update as more news about that comes available. But as you can see in the photo below, there's quite the little cluster now in Tribeca, and I'm all for it.
While these are not ALL of the galleries in a particular neighborhood, these are the galleries I go to regularly because they have an interesting program and are more likely than not to put on a great exhibit.
