About the Exhibit
This is Sandro Chia’s third solo exhibit with Marc Straus Gallery in the Lower East Side.
The exhibit was on view from February 23 - July 31, 2020.
“In his expressive paintings, Chia celebrates man’s sensuality, vitality and relationship with nature.” (source)
Chia “assimilates culture and imagery from the troves of art history, particularly the Italian Renaissance and Futurism.” (source)
Examples of this are the dog - which in Renaissance paintings were a symbol of loyalty, as well as horses that symbolize strength and vitality.
In this exhibit Sandro opts for a more muted color palette, assigning color to the secondary subject in the painting such as a chair or dog.
