About the Exhibit - Pearl Lines
Pearl Lines is Walter Price’s debut show at Greene Naftali Gallery in Chelsea, on view until October 31st.
“Price's paintings and drawings tread the line between figuration and abstraction, grounded in a visual vocabulary informed by both personal and shared experience.” (source)
Walter Price has perfected what often takes artists many more years to execute on consistently - that ability to create free, child-like lines, colors, and shapes that in the end create a perfectly balanced abstract figurative work.
The effort involves un-learning traditional techniques often beaten into a student during art school.
The title of the show, Pearl Lines, is inspired by the foundation of Price’s practice - drawing.

In the back rooms of the exhibit, you can see Price’s drawings as well as a series of collages, which were some of my favorites, packed with personality.
“Price expands the mark-making possibilities of colored pencil, graphite, marker, and oil pastel in constantly varying gestures paired with collage––pages from books.” (source)
About the Artist - Walter Price
Walter Price doesn’t follow a typical artist’s resume. He’s 31, born and raised in Macon Georgia, and it was his time in the Navy (4 years serving) that allowed him to pursue his art education on the GI Bill. At least we can thank the government for something because Price was destined to be an artist.
